Biography
Born in Brazil, Marcelo has worked on international development projects in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean. He holds a Masters of Arts in Latin American Studies (concentration in Tropical Conservation and Development) from the University of Florida and is receiving his PhD degree from University of California, Merced, in December 2024. His research focuses on the relationships between carbon markets in the Global North and Indigenous peoples in Brazilian Amazonia.
Marcelo is the 2022 winner of the Eric Wolf Prize of the Political Ecology Society. His interests in Geography entails Indigenous geographies and critical development theories.
Information
Marcelo is a full-time instructor of Geography at the School of Behavioral and Social Sciences, teaching face-to-face classes and online. His areas of specialization are political ecology and critical geography. He has international experience in development projects and speaks Portuguese, English and Spanish.
