I. DISCUSSION ITEM

A. Selection Process for Interim Chancellor

At a special Board meeting on March 17, 2004, the Board of Trustees voted to proceed with a process leading to the selection of an Interim Chancellor following the Chancellor’s retirement August 19. At this time the Board wishes to consider its options and possibly determine what process it will use to select an Interim Chancellor.

The two basic choices are selecting an interim from within the organization (after following established hiring procedures) or contracting with a consulting firm that provides interim administrators (after reviewing their proposals and interviewing prospective candidates). Other considerations for the Board include determining the length of the assignment and whether or not there will be a restriction prohibiting the interim chancellor from being a candidate for the permanent position.

The Board of Trustees has previously received various documents from the Community College League and Title 5 related to this topic.

RECOMMENDATION: That the Board of Trustees discuss the advantages and disadvantages of the various options and choices and determine how they would like to proceed.
