What is RSS?

Users of the Yosemite Community College District website may occasionally notice pages advertising an available "RSS Subscription".  RSS, also known as an "RSS feed", "webfeed", "RSS stream", or "RSS channel" provides a way for users to passively receive newly released content. If you have an RSS reader installed on your computer, simply select the RSS image on the page to subscribe. The subscription image looks like this:

RSS Available

Once you have subscribed to the page, your RSS reader will be automatically notified whenever the page is updated or new content is added.

What if I don't have an RSS reader?

While RSS technology has been in use since the late 1990's, most Internet users still do not have RSS readers installed onto their computers. Mozilla Firefox supports RSS feeds natively within the web browser. Apple supports RSS in the Safari browser for the MAC with a free browser plugin.  The Microsoft Internet Explorer 7 web browser and Microsoft Office 2007 also support RSS subscriptions natively without added software. Users looking for standalone RSS readers will find many free and low cost options at the following links:
