Initiative Goals...

  • Ensure that all college district policies, procedures, and practices reflect the values of inclusiveness, tolerance and mutual respect.
  • Offer staff development that increases YCCD staff's knowledge, self-awareness and commitment to these values.
  • Recruit, hire and retain staff that are reflective of California's population.
  • Implement strategies to incorporate topics related to diversity and tolerance throughout the curriculum.
  • Provide leadership and assistance to organizations and institutions in the greater community who are interested in the pursuit of tolerance.

The Quest For Tolerance...

In January 1999, eighteen members of the Yosemite Community College District's Quality Staff Resource Team traveled to Los Angeles to undergo two intensive days of tolerance training at the Simon Wiesenthal Center Museum of Tolerance.

The museum is a high tech, hands-on experiential museum that focuses on two themes: the dynamics of racism and prejudice in America and the history of the Holocaust -- the ultimate example of man's inhumanity to man.

The trips, and the campus and community events they inspired, have directly changed our colleges and the communities we serve.

Since that first group, the District has supported 23 trips in which 507 employees and 5 trustees have participated in the tolerance training.
